How Should I Install My Number Plates?

We recommend installing your number plates using the sticky pads provided with your order. This method provides a strong, secure fit while maintaining the appearance and integrity of the plate.

Before installation, ensure the vehicle surface is clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, or wax. Apply the sticky pads evenly to the rear of the plate, position it carefully, and press firmly into place.

We do not recommend drilling number plates, especially 3D and 4D styles, as this can damage the plate and may affect warranty coverage.

For the best results, avoid washing the vehicle for 24 hours after installation to allow the adhesive to fully bond.

Are 3D And 4D Number Plates Legal?

Yes, 3D and 4D number plates can be road legal in the UK, provided they comply with current DVLA regulations and the relevant British Standard requirements.

To remain legal, number plates must use the correct font, character spacing, sizing, colouring, and reflective materials. The plate must also display the supplier's details and the applicable British Standard marking where required.

Our road-legal 3D and 4D number plates are manufactured to meet these requirements when ordered in the correct format. However, show plates and custom designs featuring non-standard fonts, altered spacing, coloured characters, logos, or other modifications are intended for off-road and display use only and are not road legal.

If you're unsure whether a particular plate style is road legal, please contact us before ordering and we'll be happy to help.

What are Show Plates?

Show plates are custom number plates designed for exhibitions, car shows, photo shoots, private land use, and display purposes. Unlike road-legal number plates, show plates can include customised features such as altered spacing, custom text, coloured characters, logos, backgrounds, borders, and other design elements that do not comply with DVLA regulations.

Because show plates do not meet the legal requirements for use on public roads, they must only be used for display purposes or on private property.

At Dynamite Plates, we offer a wide range of show plate options, allowing you to create a unique design that reflects your vehicle's style while clearly distinguishing them from our road-legal plate range.

If you intend to use your plates on public roads, please ensure you select a road-legal option that complies with all current UK regulations.

Can You Create Me A Custom Order?

Yes. If you're looking for a bespoke or more complex design that isn't available on our website, we'd be happy to help.

Simply email us with details of your requirements, along with any reference images, logos, or design ideas you have in mind. Our team will review your request and let you know what's possible.

For custom order enquiries, please contact us at dynamiteplates@gmail.com.

Are Short Plates Legal?

Yes, short number plates can be road legal in the UK, provided they display the full registration correctly and comply with current DVLA regulations regarding character size, spacing, margins, reflectivity, and British Standard requirements.

A short plate simply reduces the amount of blank space around the registration and is manufactured to fit the exact number of characters required.

However, shortening a plate beyond the legal requirements, altering character spacing, or using non-compliant fonts may make the plate illegal for road use.

If you're unsure whether a particular short plate size is road legal, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to advise.
